Meet Beth North of Birmingham, MI, one of our very talented jewelry artists here at Yellow Door Art Market. Beth likes making jewelry that inspires and empowers the wearer. She believes that every single design is exactly like its wearer; a beautiful, unique individual.
What makes your art work unique or distinctive?
I studied business, accounting and finance in college and took my first official art class when I was a senior. I fell in love immediately with all art mediums. I am self taught so I have no rules or guidelines and what I create is inspired by every aspect of life.
I have been making jewelry for about 14 years. In the beginning, I only sold at galleries. I took about five years off to raise my two girls. I started back up last year and was offered a spot in the Birmingham Art Fair.
Do you have any notable awards or accomplishments?
Art Birmingham - Spring 2009; Best of Show, Birmingham Art in the Park - Fall 2009; Best of Show, Ridge Fine Art Shows - November 2009; People's Choice Award, Birmingham Community House/Our Town - October 2010; Gold Medal
What do you most love about the creative process?
I love when I am designing a piece and I have a happy accident or my piece changes direction and turns out better than the original idea. I just love taking a piece of raw metal and transforming it into something beautiful.
I love spending time with my two daughters and my husband. I love to cook, garden and play with my two cats and dog. I love to hang out with my friends and enjoy good wine and conversation.
You can find lots of Beth's gorgeous jewelry at Yellow Door Art Market, as well as on her website. Stay tuned for more fun and interesting info about Beth all this week!
