Meet Gino Toreli of Ortonville, MI, who creates sculptures out of railroad spikes with larger than life personalities. He has been welding for the past 35 years, but just began creating artwork in his current style in 2006. Gino's Spike Art characters are usually captured in an everyday occurrence, and it's his attention to detail and sense of motion that bring them to life.
What inspired you to start creating your artwork & how did you turn it into a business?
I always looked at tig welding as a form of art and one day, just fooling around, I created my first spike figure and it just continued on. I had started making them for friends & family, then it moved on to art shows and the rest is history!
What do you most love about the creative process?
Being able to resurrect scrap metal and bring it back to life.
What do you enjoy doing besides making art?
Hunting with my dogs and spending time with my family.
You can find lots of Gino's awesome metal work at Yellow Door and online. Stay tuned for more fun and interesting info about Gino this week!
