Meet April Francene Schwaegerle of Commerce Township, MI, who designs beautiful jewelry using the Petoskey stone as the central focus of her creations. April was born and raised in Detroit and attended Wayne State and Center for Creative Studies. She enjoys visits to the Leelanau Peninsula as often as possible. April can't remember a time when she didn't feel like an artist... from drawing in kindergarten to the jewelry she designs today. In her heart and soul, she will always be an artist. What inspired you to start creating your artwork & how did you turn it into a business?
My wedding in 2003 was the inspiration to create jewelry for the first time. After that, friends asked me to make pieces for them so I decided to turn it into a business.
What do you most love about the creative process?
I love the magical process of combining elements to create a merger of those elements into something beautiful that ultimately brings joy to someone. What do you enjoy doing beside making art?
I enjoy making food, playing with my two corgis, yoga, reading, and hanging out with any and all of my family and friends.
Quote you love to live by:
"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~ Mark Twain
What do you remember wanting to be when you grew up?
An artist! My kindergarten teacher, Miss Evans, told my mother that I would be an artist.
