I’ll try to narrow it down the best I can. Studying various artists is one of my favorite things. Art history is one of my favorite subjects, thanks to SCAD! I like a lot of different artists, from the Renaissance painters in the 1400’s to fantastical painters today.
"The Storybook" ~ 1877 and "Little Girl" ~ 1878
"Assault" ~ 1898 and "Youth" ~ 1898
"Le Ravissement de Psyche" ~ 1895
William Adolphe Bouguereau from the 1800’s has to be my absolute favorite, if I had to pick only one. The romantic expression in his work astounds me, and his choice of Greco-Roman subject matter is what does me in! I actually have a massive print above my desk in my studio of his painting “Le Ravissement de Psyche” - I wanted this tattooed on my body, but neither my arms or legs are big enough for it. (lol) I am obsessed with the story of Cupid and Psyche.
Gustav Klimt from the 1800’s has amazing “symbolist” artwork. His “Golden Phase” paintings stand to be my favorite. The more abstracted nature of his work brings so many different emotions to each viewer, and I absolutely love that aspect. I also have a massive framed print of “The Kiss” (my favorite of his paintings) above my desk. "Prelude To A Kiss" ~ 2009
Josephine Wall, a current painter, creates images based on fantasy. Her painting style is somewhat surreal in that she includes so many hidden figures and details throughout each painting, which is what I love most about her work. I also love the romantic quality that her paintings exude. My favorite paintings by her are the ones of couples, including “Prelude to a Kiss,” “Nature’s Embrace” and “Wisteria Moon.” Something exciting about her is that I reached out to her and asked her if I could interview her on her life, work and business. She said yes, answering all of my questions, which was truly kind of her.
