Say hello to Rose Christian of Clinton Twp., MI, the talented artist behind Designs in Glass~dichroic glass jewelry that is manipulated to create unique one of a kind pieces of art. Glass is Rose's passion and she loves to create new and exciting products. She has attended a few classes, but for the most part, she's self-taught. Rose specializes in lampwork beads and fused glass jewelry. She is constantly trying new techniques and experimenting with different glasses.
What is your favorite piece of work that you have created?
My favorite piece would have o be my Michigan pendants.
What are your goals for the future, both artistically and in life?
I want to keep doing exactly what I'm doing now. I moved into a 760 square foot studio. My house is a home again and I go to work at my studio every day. I love having my own space.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on wind chimes and flowers. I am always trying to come up with new designs.
Do you have any other interesting hobbies or maybe a fun story about an experience involving your artwork?
I would like to do 3D sandblasting. I do everything with glass. I want to learn more interesting ways to manipulate glass.
What is your strongest memory of your childhood?
Growing up on a farm. It was a lot of hard work, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Two years ago I quit my job of 17 years to become a full-time artist. I was in the door business working with builders.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Everyones always surprised to find out how old I am. I'm not telling.
Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?
"Never stop trying" is my new favorite saying.
Where do you gather most of your inspiration for your artwork?
My inspiration comes from people that enjoy my work.

Pet and/or animal: I love dogs.
Movie: I like all movies that keep me on the edge of my seat. No love stories for me!

Website: I have a lot of favorites. I'm trying to learn Facebook so it can be my favorite.

What superpower would you have and why? I would like speed to be my power so I can make my art faster.
A recipe you’re known for or like to make:
Black Forest Torte and Ravioli - I don't cook anymore my husband does all the cooking and the laundry. It gives me more time for my art.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
My mother told me not to wait until I was too old to do my art. She said do it while you're young enough to do it!
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My family. My husband, my boys, daughter-in-law and 6 grandchildren. I'm blessed to have an awesome supportive family.
What has been the best cultural event you visited in the past year?
Frankenmuth. I'm there twice a month.
