Meet Maureen Mitchell-Tardivi who lives in Lathrup Village with her husband Kevin & four cats, Notts, Newbie, Stewie, and Alvin. Maureen is the talented lady behind Bijounique (pronounced bee-joo-neek), a unique jewelry line made up of uncommon beads, semi-precious stones, and vintage findings from all over the world creating one-of-a-kind pieces. Not limiting herself to classic or traditional styles, Maureen is very drawn to the Victorian Era and it's influence in jewelry, particularly 'steampunk'. She loves how time, watches, clock parts, gears, hearts, dragonflies, locks, keys, and more represent a whimsical or fantasy driven version of this era. What inspired you to start creating your art work & how did you turn it into a business?
I studied ancient jewelry in college and loved the jewelry of ancient Egypt. I also love the Victorian Era.
How long have you been creating jewelry?
Do you have any notable awards or accomplishments?
I'm taking classes at the New York Institute of Art and Design. One of my first projects there was an inspirational piece which they now use as an example for new students.
What makes your art work unique & distinctive?
Family, travel, nature, taking care of my two granddaughters (ages 3 & 17 months). The oldest enjoys making jewelry with me, although she's primarily drawn to creating only in pinks and purples!Quotes you love or live by:
