The Third Annual Girls Night Out benefiting the Berkley Education Foundation provides the ultimate way to treat yourself and maybe pick up a few things for Mother's Day, graduates and teacher gifts. Meet our new student artists

Take a peek at some of the talent that we've recently added to our amazing student art section at Yellow Door.

YD: What inspired you to start creating your artwork?

Hannah: My dad! He and some of his best friends are photographers, and I love getting tips from them and being surrounded by such great people. My parents got me my first camera for my 10th birthday, and I've been taking pictures ever since, using my dad as my greatest source of knowledge and information.

YD: Why did you decide to display & sell your artwork at Yellow Door?

Kate: I heard about it and have visited the store a few times. I always wanted to sell something there and then I realized I should sell my key chains. Everyone who has seen my key rings or one of my lanyards tells me how cool they are, and I realized it was perfect!

YD: What do you most love about the creative process?

Hannah: I love choosing the designs and I'm excited about the finished product.

YD: What inspired you to start creating your artwork?

Hannah: I was inspired by other kids' duct tape creations.

YD: What do you most love about the creative process?

Sophia & Emily: We love to be able to work together and to have fun in both the making and selling of our crafts.

YD: Why did you choose to display & sell your artwork at Yellow Door?

Sophia & Emily: We both love Yellow Door and Sophie recommended we sell there to Emily, who quickly agreed.

YD: What inspired you to start creating your artwork?

Hannah: After I took a couple sewing classes, I started making small projects. Then my grandma gave me her sewing machine and that's when I started creating Petal Pouches.

YD: What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?

Hannah: Petal Pouches are good for small gifts, jewelry, make up, small toys, small jar candles, gift cards, and notions. They come in three sizes and there are lots of fun fabric combinations for every occasion.

art fair fever returns to yellow door

Since there are still a couple of months before local art fairs start up, we decided to get a jump start on the fun! Join us for our Art Fair Fever open house on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 10-6.

Have you ever wanted to see the face behind your favorite painting, or chat with the jeweler who crafted your favorite necklace? Some of our artists will be hanging out throughout the day & they're excited to meet you too!

Most of our artists will be offering 15% off their artwork, so if you've had your eye on something, don't miss out on this great deal.

New this year! Help us spread our love of the arts. We're collecting supplies for Arts & Scraps, a wonderful local organization that provides recycled materials to arts programs for people who would not otherwise have access to them. Simply bring in two or more items from the list of suggested donations & make a purchase, and we'll give you a cute clip magnet to say "thanks."

shop small on saturday, november 24

Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is another day, one dedicated to the businesses that boost the economy and invigorate neighborhoods across the country.

It’s Small Business Saturday, and this year, it’s happening on November 24th.

American Express cardholders are being given an extra incentive to shop small. Simply register your card online at ShopSmall.com, starting November 18th, shop at a participating small business (Yellow Door) next Saturday, and you'll get a $25 refund on your credit card statement.

In addition to being a small business ourselves, we here at Yellow Door feel strongly about this cause because we house more than 70 individual small businesses within our walls! It's our passion to promote the work of Michigan artists and give them the opportunity to pursue their craft, so shop small this November 24th, and let's make this the biggest day of the year for the 70 small businesses that make us who we are.

Meet our five new student artists!

Five new talented student artists have just joined our student section.  Be sure to stop in and check out the new items they've added to our collection of talented up and coming artists.  Meet Sarah Schwanke, creator of Sarah's Survival Bracelets, from Berkley. Sarah's Survival Bracelets can be taken apart and can hold over 550 lbs. They can save your life in a survival situation. They can replace a shoe lace or hold a piece of cloth for shelter.What inspired you to start creating your artwork?

What inspired me to make these bracelets was that over the summer I went to the maker fair and saw them and wanted to learn how to make them, so I went home and learned how.  Meet J.P. DeRonne, from Beverly Hills. J.P. is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade. Some of his hobbies besides making clocks include, tennis, golf, cars, and video games.What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?

It is a modern looking clock and everyone is different.

What inspired you to start creating your artwork?

When I did my first clock, I looked at it and loved the feeling inside my head that said, "Wow, I made that!" So I made more.  Meet Katherine DeRonne, creator of Paper Moon, from Beverly Hills. Katherine is currently in the 5th grade and she loves to sew. Her grandma was the one who taught her to sew, but it was only hand sewing. She has always wanted to learn more, so she self taught herself everything she knows now.What do you love most about the creative process?

Coming up with all the designs. It's so fun!

Do you have any notable awards or accomplishments?

No big ones but I won Most Creative in my class!  Meet Autumn Bennett & Madeline Koster, creators of Frayed Ends, from Berkley. Autumn and Madeline are 13 years old and are currently in Middle School. They love to laugh and have a good time. They also are very creative, and they love all types of art and love to make their own art. They also really enjoy hanging out with friends and family.What do you most love about the creative process?

The thing we love the most is making the bracelets while we hang out and also choosing cool color combinations is fun!

What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?

The color combinations make the bracelets unique because they are very bright and they are always different!
