It's the time of year when we're all starting to crave an art fair. Well, we're here to oblige with our Art Fair Fever open house on Saturday, March 15, from 10am-6pm. Be sure to stop by Yellow Door to meet many of our artists, receive 15% off all artwork, enjoy Michigan made sips & snacks throughout the day, and donate to Project Night Night, who provide 'night night' bags to homeless children at local shelters. So mark your calendars and get a jump start on art fair season with us! More info coming soon!
We're looking forward to seeing your smiling faces soon!

It's hard to believe that over three years have passed by since we hired Laura to be part of our very first Yellow Door team. Even though she just worked part time, she quickly became Cheryl's right hand gal when it came to blogging, creating the weekly enews and staying organized.
Recognizing Laura's talent, it was an easy decision to ask her to become manager a year and a half later when Cheryl transitioned to our sister store, Catching Fireflies in Rochester.
She took on her new responsibilities like a fish to water.... getting to know the artists on personal level, visiting them at local art fairs and even spending part of her pay check on artist's works regularly.
Thanks to her vision, photography of our art work flourished. She was always coming up with fresh new ways to present our artist's items in gift guides, facebook updates and artist features. She has definitely has been a big influence on for how I frame and angle my personal and professional photos too.
Her eye for design was also very evident in enews. When Yellow Door first opened, I was responsible for putting together the weekly update but Laura took it to new levels with eye-popping color stories, well laid out graphics and creative new content luring our Yellow Door fans to come visit us again.
And when Yellow Door fans did visit us, she was happy to help them find that perfect print for a baby nursery, match a necklace to a cocktail dress or come up with groomsmen gifts that would be a hit. These personal connections make us proud to celebrate being HOUR Detroit's Best Place to Buy a Craft three years in a row.
Laura's unprompted window decorations were always wow-worthy. It's just another way she went above and beyond to create an inspiring aesthetic in the art market.
And then we introduced chalk markers... she could easily free lance her fantastic lettering skills to many downtown shops without question!
Of course I'm posting all pretty images of Laura's time with us but she also was amazing on the business side of things ~ as it's a BIG job keeping 70+ artists organized consistently.
The relationships she formed with her team over the years has also been celebrated in and outside of Yellow Door and I'm sure those friendships will continue on.
Thank you Laura for sharing the past three years with us. Your terrific talents will be dearly missed but you’ll always be part of the Yellow Door story. We wish you all the best in your exciting next chapter of life.

Manager Laura Eckert has truly enjoyed the past three and a half years working at Yellow Door, but now feels that it's time to head in a different direction. She'll be spending the next few months traveling, with the hopes of landing somewhere on the west coast, as well as spending more time with her own creative pursuits. She appreciates the knowledge & confidence she's gained at Yellow Door and knows it will serve her well wherever she ends up.
We're excited to announce that Stacey Palmer will be stepping into the manager role at the beginning of February. Both Laura & Stacey have been with Yellow Door since day one, and have worked closely together the whole time. Stacey has the perfect personality for customer service, and we would be lost without her excellent organizational skills. On top of that, the relationships that she's built with all of the artists will help her lead Yellow Door into a bright future.
Thanks for all of your support!
