"Hello! I'm Kayla, the maker behind Hanson Street. Hanson St. houses the little white cottage in Northern Michigan where I fell in love with my husband. I started my handmade business online in 2016. Since then I've been honored to be in the retail setting of some amazing brick and mortars, be a vendor at multiple local markets, and really make a name for Hanson St. in the community. I am honored that so many people love my creations and inspired even more each year to grow my business!"
Hanson St. is full of Michigan inspired home decor, clothing, and knitwear. There is a little something for everyone. Whether giving a gift, picking out the perfect Michigan pillow for your new cottage or the cutest beanie for your new bundle, you'll find something you can't live without!
What are you goals for the future, both artistically and in life? "Artistically, I would love to grow Hanson St. even more, I would love the opportunity to design more. In life, I think just enjoying my marriage and dream of a quiet, simple life." What are you currently working on? "Currently I am working on a prep for an upcoming market for the holiday season and hopefully releasing another knit/crochet pattern by the end of the year."
Do you have any other interesting or fun hobbies? "I've always been creative! I love knitting and crochet but I've also painted in the past, created jewelry, and done scrap-booking and card making." What is your strongest memory from your childhood? "Traveling to a little city in Ohio with my family to visit my Great-Grandmother. She lived in the cutest little house and made the best chicken sandwiches. We used to play hide the thimble."
Do you have any tips or words of wisdom for others? "Everyone starts from the beginning, DON'T COMPARE! As long as you stay focused and motivated on your goals, you will succeed."
Where do you gather most of your inspiration for your work? "I would say I am nature inspired and I have a small group of peers I look to for inspiration and advice!"
