Nicole started making jewelry and handbags because she wanted something she couldn't find in the stores. She loves original style and design. Nicole started off by doing art fairs and realized that there are other people who appreciate originality as much as she does- so her business evolved into what it is today! She loves what she does and feels blessed to be able to make a living at it!
Why did you choose to partner with Yellow Door to sell your artwork?
I live in Berkley - so I love to support my hometown. I also think Yellow Door is a great shop. I love the idea of supporting local artists in a great well put together shop.
How long have you been creating your artwork?
six years.
What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?
I design everything & hand make it. I love taking my wild thoughts and working on them. Turning into actual comfortable fun pieces to wear.
What do you remember wanting to be when you grew up?
I loved construction. My dad was a carpenter & artist so I think I wanted to be him. I always love making things so now I do!
What inspired you to start creating your artwork & how did you turn it into a business?
My dad inspired me to work on building things always with an artistic flair, of course. My grandma was always a sharp business lady- so I would like to say that they both inspired me!
What do you most love about the creative process?
Taking ideas from my head and getting them to work! Sometimes it's not that easy... but so satisfying when it comes together.
What do you least love about the business side of creating & selling art?
Sometimes it gets lonely when you are the creator & maker & everything else. You get stuck in the house a lot because its all on you.
What do you enjoy doing besides making art?
Swimming, running, my son, his dad, my dog: being active.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
I have always loved Matisse & Frida Kahlo.
What are some of your favorite reads?
I read everything- I love learning about natural remedies & all things holistic.
What do you like to listen to?
Janis Joplin * Stevie Nicks Pandora are my got to's!
