Susan of BirdzNbeez creates vintage-inspired jewelry, each with a touch of whimsy and enchantment. Her silver plated pieces are also inspired by nature, so you may often find a little silver bird making its way into a design.
How long have you been creating your work?
I have been creating artwork since 1998.
What inspired you to start creating your artwork?
I previously owned a vintage clothing store in Birmingham, Michigan called Banana Anna's. I collected and stored away a lot of found objects. These treasures inspired me to create. I have always maintained the "I'll do something with these someday" attitude.
What is your favorite part of the creative process?
I love the endless possibilities. I love taking components that I have used a year ago and see them in a different light a year later.
What do you remember wanting to be when you grew up?
All my Christmas lists as a child were comprised of art kits and supplies. While I was too young to be aware of it at the time, this was the path that led me to become an artist.
What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?
My work is vintage inspired but always has a fresh approach.
Do you have any notable awards or accomplishments?
I have been acknowledged as number one in jewelry sales on Etsy's top 100 category in the United States.
What do you least love about the business side of creating & selling art?
Except for setting up for an outdoor art show in inclement weather, I love everything about creating & selling art.
