Meet Yvonne Spampinato
Yvonne is the talented artist behind Kept Jewelry ~ jewelry designs made from brass, semiprecious stones, fiber, and sometimes found objects. Each piece is designed to adhere the perfect balance and simplicity, perfect for everyday wear. She has been creating her lovely jewelry for seven years, having been inspired while she worked at Lost & Found Vintage clothing store. For over ten years, she managed the store and was fully in charge of all jewelry buying and pricing. She learned a great deal about jewelry, something she has loved since she can remember! When she began repairing and tweaking pieces, they began to sell more...which led her to believe she should further explore her capabilities. She is (and we are!) so glad she did!
Why did you choose to partner with Yellow Door to sell your artwork?
It seemed like a great opportunity to reach a broad local audience.
What makes your artwork unique or distinctive?
I think my work stands out because it is tastefully eye-catching and easy to wear every day. I'm proud to say I use interesting stones that complement many styles.
Do you have any notable awards or accomplishments?
I was featured on Channel 7 recently.
What do you remember wanting to be when you grew up?
I really wanted to be an archaeologist. I've always been fascinated with history. From ancient cultures to stones (geology), I'd like to think I carry on my interests in my work today.
What do you most love about the creative process?
Some of my best designs come out of accidents or strictly using elements I already have laying around. But most of my inspiration comes from hunting beads and stones. In addition, I always ask myself, "would I wear this?" I try to stick to practical designs so my line is easy to wear.
What do you least love about the business side of creating & selling art?
Whoa! Loaded question! Lol
I struggle to keep up with most document/online aspects. Mainly line sheets & creating documents that are easy for wholesale customers to view and open. It takes a lot of time and is difficult to find the time to get done when I'm so busy making all the jewelry. I find Etsy to be easy in that way.
What do you enjoy doing besides making art?
I love fashion, specifically, I will always be in love with vintage fashion. But, I also enjoy keeping up with all the current trends. I also love film. I take a lot of inspiration from both.
